About

Toured Home is my compass for exploring the world.  It’s meaning comes from a play on the words tour and toward which implies forward movement, combined with home, a sacred place in my heart where yet-to-be-discovered lands, people, cultures, foods, music and love reside.

I’m Meryl.  I am touring the world for a year of my life on a solo journey to see, feel, smell, taste, hear….and be.  I hope to be inspired, enlightened, and find new passions and paths to travel through this “life” that I am so lucky to have.  This is my first blog and I plan to use it as a record of my thoughts and experiences as well as a forum to meet people who are friendly, who want to offer any guidance, travel tips, or connections.

A brief bio on me – I am a single mother to the two most beautiful children in the world.  I say “children”, because by definition they will always be that to me, but they are both young adults now living on their own.  This trip was actually my son’s brilliant idea.  No sarcasm intended at all.  Professionally, I am a successful, published interior designer with a background in tax accounting.  Yes, left-brain/right-brain thing, and 8 years of college. I also like to write, and can imagine (as soooo many of you can relate to) writing a book, a fictional memoir type, based on this blog.  I appreciate and welcome your comments on my posts as they will help me learn more about myself as a writer.  I have always loved to travel, and have done some in my early twenties, but marriage, kids, career, pets, homes….well, you get it.   I am now completely untethered and able to just go.  So I’m going!!!  I will enjoy Thanksgiving 2013 with my family and leave the next morning for South Africa.  I have my Dave Matthews ticket for a concert Dec. 1 in Cape Town to start me off because there’s nothing better than music, and no one better than Dave.  I am brave, confident, intelligent, happy, funny, passionate, interested, social, responsible, and hopeful.  Hopeful about what the next year of my life will bring.

Hope you will join me!!
